Let’s be clear, if you were in their shoes, you would have done the exact same thing.  So we can do away with the sanctimonious, holier than thou attitudes that a lot of Prince William County residents are flaunting.  If you were born just south of the border and could come to the ‘land of milk & honey’ and have a better life, job, home etc… you would do it too! Even if it meant breaking an unenforced federal immigration law.

Having said that, every sovereign nation needs enforced borders.

The problem is - what to do with people who have not been convicted of any crimes, have been in this country for 5, 10, 15, 20 years, are tax-payers/homeowners/business owners, have U.S. citizen children that could conceivably be serving in the U.S. Armed Forces and possibly US citizen grandchildren; do we deport these people for a period of 10 years before allowing them re-entry?  It seems harsh, considering the Federal Government has knowingly allowed them to stay for so long.  Who do we really blame here?  Is this yet another case of failure by the Federal Government or is it the fault of the people coming here for a better life?

Americans should be fair and differentiate between someone who has been here close to a quarter century versus someone who entered illegally yesterday.
